So, this post will be more information on what has been going on and what the Discipleship Training School is like.
1) We are group of 13 people from all over the world. Singapore, Canada, Spain, Korea and America. Our Discipleship Training School staff is from Holland, Canada, Fiji, America, Hong Kong and Samoa. We are multi-talented, from artists, teachers, singers, dancers, musicians and film-making. Our ages range between 18-38, on staff and students, each of us having a heart either to reach out to Asia, grow closer to God, get involved in missions or to break out of the normal Christian bubble that we can get stuck in when we get 'comfortable' in our daily lives. Each of our stories of how we came to be here in Hong Kong are different, but definitely influenced by Jesus. Awesome.
2) Every morning begins with breakfast, Quiet Time and then worship. Quiet Time has been amazing and God has really been speaking to me about who He is and His love for me. I'll share a few of the words He has given me in another post. Or two. (See God MyFather)
3) After worship, we have class. This first week was filled with the staff and students sharing our testimonies and then we also had several classes on Hearing the Voice of God and then The Fruit and Root of Pride. I remembered during the Pride session, I was surprised to be shown by God I had pride issues that needed to be dealt with. One of my friends who wrote a reference for me to be accepted into the Discipleship Training School had said one of my weaknesses was pride because I always think I can do things by myself, without help. She told me she was joking, to an extent. When watching the video and hearing the different symptoms of pride, such as self-reliance and sarcasm, I had to pray and confess to God what I had been doing without my knowledge. This is just a small part of what God has and will continue to be doing in each of our lives during the next five months. Praise God.
4) Discipleship Training School is a time to spend with God, preparing for what He has in His will. We spend a lot of time in prayer, worship and His Word.
5) We have three creative book reports that we will do during the three month lecture phase. The book I am currently reading is: "Chasing the Dragon" by Jackie Pullinger (great read, so encouraging, I recommend it!) I believe the other two books I will choose will be "The Father Heart of God" by---- and then "Is That Really You God?" by Loren Cunningham.
6)Since I am writing this late at night, my brain just froze on what else to tell you about. So. If you have more specific questions, please message me or comment and I will answer!
7) PRAYER REQUESTS!!!
(in no particular order)
-Health of the staff and students. There has been a type of stomach flu virus going around our base and some of the staff are still feeling the effects of this. I had this sickness the weekend before the Discipleship Training School started, and people have been getting it before and after that time as well.
-Unity in the team. We are becoming a close~knit family, but because we are always together, there is always the chance of strife to arrive. The are cultural differences, language barriers and general differences that we all must be sensitive to. Pray that we continue to have a peaceful time!
-Growth in God. The most important part of the Discipleship Training School is that we focus on God and what He wills for the next five months. We need to hear His voice clearly and be willing to be obedient to what He corrects us in, accepting of healing of our hearts and being open with others.
-Peace and protection in Hong Kong. Throughout different parts of Asia, there have been various political and social conflicts. Please remember this in your prayer time for us. Though we are quite safe where we are, there are changes that could affect us in the future and on outreach.
-Anointing. We will be doing open air evangelism within a few weeks, as well as weekly outreaches with local ministries: Sons and Daughters Ministry (red light district), Shanti Ministry (ethnic minority groups in Hong Kong), Food Distribution (drug addicts) and sports ministries (schools). All of these are wonderful tools to help minister to those in need of hearing the gospel and ministering in practical ways too, just as Jesus did. We need His presence, love and joy flowing through us.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support! I look forward to answering any questions, or if you have any prayer requests, I would be glad to pray for you too!
