My ClassMates

You have probably heard the phrase "It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round." However, once you have met the 'all kinds' it makes that statement most questionable. For instance, meet my classmates. I love them each to the death and adore them all. However, we all have our own quirks that make us...shall I say unique? To the extreme? Let me explain.

I am a criminal justice major and we all knit together to form a close-knit family. Kinda like the mob. We have the muscle, the brains, the legal and the illegal, the young, the old: a well-rounded, perfectly "normal" co-existence of which I am proud to be apart of.

The Guys:

My close buddy, Joe, is fascinated with serial killers. He is infamous for being the guy in the know about the killers internationally known. Joe knows their back stories, their likes/dislikes, motives, prison dates and what they got caught with. He is brilliant! Joe  is fascinated by them, but not actually interested in becoming one of them. Just clarifying.

Zulu is a professional student with plenty of experience in any field of criminal justice. The best word to describe him would be an enigma. Once you have met Zulu, you NEVER forget him. He's always willing to lend a hand, or an opinion, and adds flavor and spice to the program. We are both currently working on a project he brought to me about petitioning the Governor about financial aid recommendations.

(If you are a student in Georgia attending a college of any level, please join the fight. I will include a link you can go to for the Georgia Hope and Pell Petition- Student Voice. Sorry, I had to add the plug.)

Jacob is the interesting one. We all wonder if he is just going to figure out a way to scam people, and him and I have had our fair share of battles. The others just sat back and enjoyed the show. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be the same without him. Good times, good times.

David is another interesting person, along with the scammer idea. He is proud of the grades he gets (high or low), and again is very opinionated. If you want to have a good combat conversation, he's the go to guy. Actually, every single person in our criminal justice class is. If you aren't, you will be soon enough.

Chris has a natural knack for seeing the reality behind the farce, and refuses to put up with anything less. The dependable person out of the guys of the class, you can count on him knowing what is going on.

Franklin is cool, calm and collected. I have never seen his feathers ruffled, no matter how stressed he really is. A great guy to talk to, he has given me plenty of pointers for if I ever get a job at RYDC (a juvenile detention center.)

The ladies of the class are more scarce, but each still unique in their own way.

The Ladies:

There is me, of course, who not many can figure out. I was referenced as the "classy one" who would have to represent the others in court if they ever did anything illegal. Through the mob reference, I would be the brains- my job at the college gives me a way to help the students do research and tutor them in areas they need help. My appearance does not match my career choices, (I look like a secretary but I am the first to stand up against something/someone), but my classmates that have gotten to know me know that I can handle myself in a way that commands respect. At least some. Thank God. :)

We have the rookies, which is meant that these are the youngest, freshest out of school or newest to the program. They work part-time jobs at fast food restaurants or are taking care of kids and take the ribbing of the older students with grace. They just want to make it out of college in one piece and get a better job than working minimum wage. (Not that there is anything wrong with that. We just cannot live on it. That is all.)

Tasha is the another vertically challenged, fiery woman who raises rabbits and isn't afraid to tell you what she thinks. A strong personality, she is part of the backbone of our family.

Jersey is a rookie- it's her first semester and she has been plunged into the core of criminal justice. Zulu and myself are her mentors, so she has gotten a heavy dose from the old dogs, so to speak. She has a mission and knows what she wants, and is working hard to get there.

Jasmine is the girl everyone loves. She is smart, strong, and has a deep sense of right and wrong. I wish we had more like her in the world. She can take on anything. What is especially intriguing is the fact that her, her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are ALL in the Criminal Justice program. And they all have their unique "spice to life"!

Kelly is a friend who has to use a cane right now because of an injury to her foot. She is rough and tough and can (and will) do and say anything the guys can. A sweetheart, always.

Despite our wacky quirks, interests and motives, we really wouldn't be the same without each of us. And these are just the tip of the iceberg of our class. We have dozens and dozens of other students, with more being added each semester who continue to carry on our legacy of being Criminal Justice without shame. These are my friends, the one I talk to, admire and love. We all struggle together, cry together, laugh together, and celebrate wen something goes right. We back each other up. We might mess with one of our own, even gang up on them occasionally ( I have been a victim of that, all in sport of course), but no one can mess with one of our own. We are a family and nothing will tear that apart. I describe them with the utmost respect and laughter, because we all know it's the truth. When I graduate, I will miss them. But I will try hard to keep in contact and visit the class every now and then, and keep an eye on the new rookies, just starting out on their journey of being a Criminal Justice student.

Alright, off for the day. I am on break right now and  am trying to remember everything. I promise stories once the semester starts.
